Data Compliance, Algorithm Governance and Normative Science: a China – Italy Cooperative Research Dialogue

On April 10th, 2021, faculty and researchers of the China Institute for Socio–Legal Studies (CISLS) and the AI Governance and Law Center of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and of the LIDER Lab of Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, held an online meeting to foster a Cooperative Research Dialogue.

After a welcome and introductions session held by Sabina Nuti (Professor of Management and Rector of Sant'Anna), JI WeiDong  (President of CISLS and Senior Professor of Liberal Arts at SJTU) and Giovanni Comandé (Professor of Law and Founder of LIDER Lab at Sant'Anna), the event comprised sessions on:

Rethinking Digital Copyright Law for a Culturally Diverse, Accessible, Creative Europe -- with a presentation by Caterina Sganga (Associate Professor of Law at Sant'Anna) and discussion by ZHANG Chenguo (Associate Professor at the KoGuan School of Law of SJTU and Member of the Planning Committee of the Chinese Academy of Law and Society) and TANG Lin (Research Assistant at the AI Governance and Law Center of SJTU and PhD candidate of KoGuan School of Law of SJTU)

Legal Argumentation and Smart Court in the Era of Artificial Intelligence -- with a presentation by JI Weidong (President of CISLS and Senior Professor of SJTU) and discussion by Giovanni Comandé and  Caterina Sganga.

The LeADS Legality Attentive Data Scientists H2020 Project -- with a presentation by Giovanni Comandé and discussion by ZHEN Ge (Professor at the KoGuan School of Law of SJTU and Director of the Planning Committee of the Chinese Academy of Law and Society) and YI Junlin ((Research Assistant at the AI Governance and Law Center of SJTU and PhD candidate of KoGuan School of Law of SJTU)

Predictive Justice -- with presentations by Denise Amram, Daniele Licari and Giovanni Comandé (Sant'Anna School) and discussion by LI Xueyao  (Professor at the KoGuan School of Law of SJTU, Director of the Law and Cognitive Science Research Center and Member of the Planning Committee of the Chinese Academy of Law and Society) and SHEN Wei (Distinguished Professor at the KoGuan School of Law of SJTU and Professor of Global Law of New York University)

AI Governance, Risk Control and Knowledge Graph -- with presentations by LIU Zhiyi (Director of the SenseTime Intelligent Industry Research Institute and Joint Executive Director of the SJTU Computational Law and AI Ethics Research Center) and LIN Haozhou (Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Chinese Law and Society of SJTU and Assistant Director of the Computational Law and AI Ethics Research Center) and discussion by Denise Amram and Daniele Licari.

Concluding remarks were offered by CHEN Jinhua (Distinguished Professor and Vice Dean of the KoGuan School of Law of SJTU and Vice Dean of the Chinese Academy of Law and Society) and Francesca Chiaromonte (Professor of Statistics and Scientific Coordinator of EMbeDS).
